Star Wars Legion Clone Army Expanded.

Posted on March 19, 2021

More Star Wars Legion, more painting! I have been on a bit of a tear painting Legion minis lately. I enjoy the lore, so the motivation has proven easy to find. It does not hurt that the models are easy to assemble and straight forward to paint using the new GW contrast paints. My focus as been more on the CIS droid troops, as there are a number to choose from (someone must have forced me to buy them all). Playing around with army lists online with my painted models, I saw that my clone forces were being left in the dust by my droid forces. If I wanted to play a game, needed more clones! With that in mind, I went to my FLGS and grabbed a set of regular phase one clones and a reinforcement pack.

My current force is based on the 212 Clone Legion, with orange unit markings. I decided I wanted a few shinyes to fill out the force (so skipped the unit markings), but noted the reinforcements included arc trooper models, so these would have the orange markings.

I wanted a couple of rocket launchers, as a weapons option. So, I did a minor conversion using extra bits from a Bars Speeder model (which I and till working on), adding these to the troopers (one firing and the other on the back). I also switched around a couple blasters to add some variation.

I painted these models the same as my earlier clones (need to keep that consistency!). I sprayed the models light grey on the bottom and then white from the top. This gives a nice shading base to start with. I then hit all the models with GW white contrast white. I then used GW contrast black to hit all the cloth uniform sections, weapons and vision slits. I followed with what on the armor plates and a grey dry brush on the weapons and skirts.

With all the minis painted, it was time to do the bases. These started with a dark brown painting. I then covered the tops with GW technical earth crackle paint. Once this dried (which takes a little while, as you put it on thick), I dry brushed it with some Vallejo Iraqi Sand. I glued on a spiky Gamers Grass tuft and sprayed all the models with Krylon Matte finish.

With that, a few more clones to fill out the force!
