Star War Legion General Grevious Takes Command.

Posted on March 1, 2021

I have been cranking out battle droids for MY CIS army and the time finally came to get some command figures done. This meant it was time to paint General Grevious.

The figure comes with the core box game and is of the same semi hard plastic as the clones. The detail in good and the figure has two build options. One option has him holding four blades and the other has him holding a single blade and a pistol. The pistol pose also has the cap added, which I think adds a lot to the model. So I decided to add the cap to the four bladed version to maximize the visual (I just can never seem to follow the instructions out of the box….). The cap did not quite fit, but with a little shaving with my X-Acto, the problem was quickly overcome. So, in reality, you have three pose options!

I assembled him and sprayed painted him tan on the bottom with white from the top to give some highlighting to work with. Looking at some Clone Wars pictures, I saw that he was primarily mechanical (grey or dark silver, depending on the picture), with tan pates (similar to the B1 Battle Droids). So, I replicated that look. The tan areas was hit with some GW skeleton hoard and then highlighted with tan. I painted the metallic areas with GW Contrast Black and highlighted them with Vallejo London Gray (I prefer the grey metallic look on these figures). Next I aded some eyes. The cape started with GW Contrast dark red on the inside, followed by a red highlight on the inside. For the outside, I used the GW Contrast black, with some highlight of German dark gray and panzer gray. I painted the saber hilts silver and hit them with some GW gloss washes. Finally, I applied neon green and blue on the saber blades. I may go back and replace this with some green clear plastic rod at some point, but still need to find that.

The basing was the same as all my other Legion Figures. I started with some brown, covered the top with GW Dry Earth Technical Paint. Let is set and hit it with a dry brush of Iraqi Sand and added a spike green tuft from Gamers Grass. Some spray sealer and General Grevious is almost ready for the table top. Looking at the photos, I think I need to hit him with another spray sealer that is a little more dull, as I don’t like the shiny cape!
