Lord of the Rings Tourney.

Posted on March 7, 2020

A buddy of mine ran a LotR tournament last week at our local hobby shop Huzzah Hobbies. He did a great job in setting up multiple tables with unique terrain. Well worth sharing a few photos!

The tourney was any army in the current LotR army books. The event was for one day and required each player to play three games. There were 26 players in attendance (he had 4 last minute cancellations or it would have been 30!). The event started at 11:00 am and ended at 19:00 on Sunday evening.

Tourney Rules:

• 3 Rounds of @ 2 hours each. Round 1 opponents will be determined by random draw, with table numbers being drawn from a cup, one for Good armies, and one for Evil armies. If there are unequal numbers, the last several to draw will play Good vs. Good or Evil vs. Evil. Second round pairings will be determined by Top Evil versus Top Good, and so on down the list. Third round pairings will be based upon points rankings only.
• Final Top places are determined by, in this order, 1) Most Wins, 2) Most Tournament Points, and 3) Most Scenario Victory Points. In the unlikely event of a tie, it will be broken by a head-to-head dice roll;
highest wins.
• Fully Painted Armies are Required (Three Colors & basing). One Scenario Victory Point will be lost in each round for any unpainted figures (even one!) in your army!
• I encourage players to include Nazgul in their armies, either named or unnamed, or Good heroes that have faced them (Gandalf, Theoden, Aragorn (Strider), Glorfindal, etc.) in the movies or books, as that is
the “theme” for this event.

• Your army list should comply with the list requirements in the current rules using the Middle Earth SBG Rulebook. Any publication produced by GW containing profiles for Middle Earth SBG are allowed in the event. There are no Alliance or size restrictions to Army composition beyond those contained in the rules.
• 700 pts maximum.
• Non-GW Models, proxied models, and conversions are permitted. Models must be similar in size and aesthetics to the actual model produced by Games Workshop; if the model in question does not exist,
then the model must be the height and size of similarly sized models.
• Proxied models must be equipped with the exact same wargear of the original GW model.
• Models may not be converted to use weapons and wargear that is not listed in its profile.
• Heroes can be proxied if the proxied model is the same race as the original GW miniature. Warrior models can be proxied, but make sure your opponent is clear on what they represent, and this must be consistent for all the same unit type.

Everyone brought their own painted armies. Looks like a good time was had by all!
