In Her Majesty’s Name, Following the Mangoky

Posted on August 17, 2018

Along the Mongoky lies the old French trading station of Le Pique.  The small outpost is being terrorized by a local land baron Bartholomew Bogue and his men. After repeated calls from the locals, the colonial council has finally been able to get recognition from the great powers to their plight.  Before outside forces can intervene, Boque has hired foreign adventurers to settle the situation on the ground before the foreigners can intervene in force.  Emilie Le Pique goes to meet the relieving forces to explain the situation with Bogue and their desperation in finding someone who can help. US Marines lead by Sargent Highway decide to double time to save the day.  Will they make it in time?

It was Pulp Wednesday and time for us to get together for another In Her Majesty’s Name game.  As we had another earlier game, I opted for my farmstead terrain and jungle ruins mat from Cigar Box.  This gave us a jungle and Savannah adventure.  The game included two teams on my random Expedition Generator.  As game master, I ran all the non-player characters.  One team rolled up a mission to find artifacts and the second rolled up a mission to clear the encampment.  The clues were rolled for randomly.  1-2 was an artifact (the first one was the main artifact.  3 and 4 were nothing and 5 up were traps.  If close to a building, the trap was D5 models. As it turned out, the first clues by buildings ended up being a trap and resulted in four soldiers.  The game was over once the attacking team cleared the encampment (and rolled under the turn number) or they were wiped out.

The game played out over seven turns, with half the clues being discovered.  Both players worked the table to achieve their primary objectives.  If it was not for the timely (unlucky die roll) of the clue in the center of the encampment, victory would have been with the raiders.  A few unlucky pluck rolls and the raiders were eliminated by a combination of the non-player units and the marines.  While neither player was able to get their secondary objectives, victory turned out to be one sided.

Check out the photos from the game!
