Deep in the jungles of Siam lies the temple of the Jade Monkey. Stories of the great wealth held at this long lost temple and the demise of varies expeditions have made this story legendary. Two weeks ago, a gibbering archeologist was found in the jungle, quite disheveled and mad. However, his constant repeating of the words monkey and temple have started the stories all over again. Adventurers have come to Bangkok to solve the mystery once and for all! If the stories are true, the wealth could be more than you can imagine!

I got together with a couple of buddies and they were interested in a Pulp game, so I pulled out some terrain and set it up! My Siam temple terrain was the easiest to get to, so that was the choice!

Both players picked their companies and I set things up. The players would have to search the seven different objectives to see if they could find the Jade Monkey (which was worth five VPs). The other objectives would be a roll off. If the player rolled higher, they would get VPs equal to the difference. If it was a tie, D10 vultures would appear. If the game master (me) rolled higher, the difference would be the placement of a number of monkeys (odd number) or apes (even numbers) on the spot. I controlled all the apes/monkeys. The apes would have to take a plush check each turn to move towards a player model. If they failed, they would just walk around in a random direction. If the apes could see another ape in a fight, they would join, if there were not at least three apes in the fight. Players would also get points for taking out the other players heroes.

We rolled off for first set up and both players went back and forth setting up a model. We then randomly determined first player, per the rules command roll. I incorporated my random events table. If either player rolled a one or ten or both players rolled the same, we could go to the random events chart.

Both players started with their forces spread out and running towards the various objective points. Things started well, as some ruby finds happened and some long range fire went forward with little effect.

This is when the monkeys started to appear. These were taken out without much trouble, so both players got a bit over confident!

They then spent the next four turns uncovering all but one of the objectives. Unfortunately for them, all they found was a lot of apes and monkeys! This was especially the case when checking the main temple. At this point, things got really deadly!

Between the mammal assault and firepower against each other, the losses started to mount, with the Professor Esterhazy Dawson’s team getting the upper hand! Things looked bleak for Theodore Rosenfelds team. However, they were able to find the Jade Monkey late in the game. This, plus a monkey offensive took the Professor out of the hunt and running back home. It looks like Teddy will be financing a lot more expeditions, after this success!
