Star Wars Legion V2 Play Test.

Posted on April 11, 2026

A buddy of mine was visiting from out of town for a week and it gave us a chance to catch up with some gaming. We tried some different things, but he was interested in trying out the new version of Star Wars Legion.

Well, not that new, the rules came out last year! There were a few of us that played the game from time to time, but had not done much with it, since they made the big changes two years ago. I was waiting for the new card sets to come out before I tried it again, as I did not want to use up all the ink on my printer!

I picked up the cards when they came out earlier. I have even painted up a few units over the period, just because I like the miniatures. Well, with the nod, I finally pulled everything out for a game.

I also had some GF9 terrain I did last year, so opted for a space port game using that and a bunch of other scatter that I have painted. I set up the board to limit visibility and provide for a lot of heavy cover. With the new cover rules and lack of practice, I figured we would need the help to offset all the mistakes we would make!

I pulled out my Geonosians, just to get them on the table for the first time and some random CIS droids. The force total was only 800 points (being the first game back and all). The opponent would be my Republic forces and various clone trooper units.

We went through the pre game stuff and got all our stuff together. Per the rules, we started on turn one, with each unit coming on the table. We did have one emplaced unit of droids, so they started set up.

The scenario had four objectives that gave points at the end of each turn. One was in each players deployment zone, so would only count for the enemy, while the others were fair game. We used some water evaporators as the markers.

We got going quite late and had a hard stop for a pre planned dinner. With that, we only got three turns in. The CIS was on their way to the victory at this point in the fight, as their firepower was pulling them ahead. Seems those double squads are a big deal in the new version!

We got to try some different things out with the changes to better understand them, while rolling dice. It was good fun and reminded us that this is a really good game! I will need to get this on the schedule again and maybe even finish!
