While hunting around the vendor hall during Historicon, I can across two bags of old Battlefield Accessories dug in markers. I own a good number of these and use them in my FOW games to mark my units, instead of just using counter to mark the unit. The advantage of this, is you can show when some stands are dug in, while other ones may not be. It also looks nicer on the table.

These of course are more useful in a smaller game when you have time. In a tourney scene, you have to move fast to finish the game in time, so playing these is not the most efficient. In our larger games, it does not really work, only because we don’t have enough markers to mark whole battalions! However, I play enough casual slow games for it to work. I was happy to come across these. I was especially happy when the vendor told me he would sell them all for five dollars! Score! I snapped them up. They were already painted brown and a number even had gray rocks already. So, I was already when I started my painting.

I just grabbed some brown paint and fished up some of the darker stands and then hit all the bases with a tan drybrush. Next, I hit all the rocks with some gray (even the already painted ones, as the drybrush kind of messed them up. I hit them all again with a lighter gray. All the paints were craft paint, as it is just terrain and these work fine.

I attached some flock with white glue to each and sealed everting in with some dull coat spray. With that, I have enough markers for a whole company of FOW infantry. These with my existing ones, will give me enough for both sides in a regular game! Always great when you find an old out of print hobby item at a great price!
