The next batch of winter planes would be a full while scheme. I had an extra Axis and Allies I-16 from my batch purchases. I remember that I had also bought an Armaments in Miniature I-16 many years ago. I dug out the model and glued it together. It is not a full match for the Axis and Allies plane, but scales well. I could have spent more money, but just decided to be happy with what I had and use them both for my section of I-16s to support my early war winter Soviets.

I started with a full spray paint of white primer on both models. After that dried, I hit the planes with a coat of contrast white paint from GW. Once that dried, everything was greyed up a bit. Even so, I added a black pin wash to the control surfaces to make them stick out more. Next was a heavy dry brush of what paint. I the painted the black, brown and red details straight up. Next, I did the blue contrast on the cockpit glass. This took two coats to better shade the white. The pilot was painted in shades of brown and flesh

The next stage was to affix some Soviet decals that I had from earlier in the project, for stars and numbers. Once those dried with some Solveset, I sprayed both models with Testors matt varnish for a satin finish.

I finished up by painting the cockpit glass with gloss paint and added the magnets. The AiM plane did not have the recessed hole, so I just added a small magnet to the bottom on the fuselage. The planes are not exact, but look fine next to one another. I think they will fill the spot!
