In Her Majesty’s Name – Into the Emerald Valley Pulp Game

Posted on August 8, 2018

The final pages of Col. Henricks diary were found in the Zanzibar Museum of Antiquities.  The old curator did not give it up easily, but nothing a few pounds sterling could not overcome..  Henricks lifetime of adventures in this dark land of memories, sights, smells, and stories has finally come into focus.  His next steps were laid out clearly showing his intended path into the inland jungles.  With this insight, Her Majesty’s Government will fund a local expedition of a few brave and loyal adventurers to find out where Henicks and his team have disappeared, facing all mysterious forces.  Hopefully putting to bed once and for all the stories of the value of Emeralds and the greatest treasure ever to be found.  Henricks diary is full of authentic detail and with the missing pages, a map can be drawn.  However, how many other adventurers or foreign governments has the old curator been convinced to sell the secrets to?  Time is short and the rewards outweigh the risks!  Which government’s team will be first?  Onward we go young lads, to the valley of emeralds….

It was Pulp Wednesday and time for us to get together for another In Her Majesty’s Name game.  I needed to travel a little light this week, s opted for my native encampment terrain and jungle ruins matt from Cigar Box.  This gave us a jungle and Savannah adventure.  Three teams on my random Expedition Generator.  As game master, I ran all the non-player characters.  Two teams rolled up missions to find artifacts and the third rolled up a mission to stop one of the other teams.  The clues were rolled for randomly.  1-2 was an artifact (the first one was the main artifact.  3 and 4 were nothing and 5 and above were traps.  If close to a building or tent, the trap was D5 models.  If in the open, it was a single attack trap (double -1 Pluck tests).  As it turned out, both clues by buildings ended up being traps.  The ones by the tents were a unit of soldiers protecting the area (all armed with rifles and bayonets.  The village clue was for natives armed with spears.  To add insult to injury, both rolls resulted in 5 models appearing!  The game was over once all the clues had been investigated.

The game played out over ten turns, with all the traps being triggered.  The different missions went as hoped, with each player working the table.  Two of the players quickly got mixed up with one another and managed to take each other out, while the third player stayed on the sideline taking long range shots and collecting clues.  The two fighting players started off with a disadvantage, as they both rolled secondary objectives that did not allow their leaders to enter close combat (which both succeeded completing).  There was a lot of killing and the game ended with the last clue being turned on turn ten.  The third player one the game easily, as he was able to keep his models out of danger and pick up most of the clues.  The other two managed to get their secondary objectives, but were to bloodied to take the victory.

Check out the photos from the game!
