The next plane project would by the most time consuming. I had a large number of Me-109s that I got within the Axis and Allies plane batches I bought and decided I could convert these into allied air support. I did not have any planes for my Hungarians, so these would fill that role.

These were total repaints. I basically fully painted the underside and upper surface camo, following some example photos I found online. The scheme was a three tone gray, green and brown. I started with a dark shade and then wet brushed the lighter color over all sections to give some depth. I then went back and painted all the guns, wheels, spinners and exhaust black. I hit the exhaust again with some red brown for rust. Next came the canopy. Some contrast blue on the glass and green on the cage work.

I had bought some decals for these planes and applied them. The decals were a bit too tricky, so took me forever to get the squadron number sections into position on the fuselage! I finally did that and sealed them with Solvaset. Once the all dried, it was time for the required Krylon Matt spray to give a satin finish.

That all had to dry, so I finished up with the canopy the next evening. This was the usual gloss coat painted onto the glass panels. With that, my Hungarian army has its air support. Someday, I will paint up the actual tanks to go with the army!
