17th Century Ottoman Army, Infantry.

Posted on March 7, 2025

I had finished up the cavalry portion of the army and hid little stacks of infantry waiting for the same treatment! My order from Shogun arrived, so I was ready to get to work.

I sprayed all the bases with dark brown to get them prepped for the all the gluing. I went with the Shogun bases, as they are magnetic and I wanted to store these on metal sheets on the bottom of my storage boxes. This would also allow me to use the Shogun movement trays in the future, if I wanted to go in that direction.

I pulled out the tray that all the infantry was on. Unfortunately, it got bumped somewhere along the way, so I had to separate the troops again. It was a nice distraction while watching some reruns on TV. I grouped them by figure type.

The destiny of the troops would tie to their fight value in V&F and represent their density. I had a decent amount of troops with muskets that I wanted to use both as skirmish infantry and irregular formed troops. So these would be attached four or five to a base for the light troops and six figures ranked up for the formed troops. The Janissaries were mounted ranked up seven or eight to the base. I had some militia spearmint, so these were ranked up three ranks deep. The irregular swordsmen were mounted as a horde and packed on the bases. Finally, I had the artillery crew.

With my plan decided, I got to gluing everything down with white glue. A night of drying and it was time for some Geohex Green paint and Woodlands Scenic flock. I let that dry over night and then added spots of white glue and Scenic Express blended turf.

It took a few nights to get through everything. The key for me is to have something on TV that I want to stream that does not require too much focus. For me, it is best to pick a rerun series or movie I want to see again. That way, I can do the work and not miss anything important!

I finished up with the dull coat to seal everything in and the army is mostly ready to go. The once problem I have with both this army and my Thirty Years War army is that I do not have a good selection of gun models. I have to proxy some older craptastick models in the meantime. SO, I guess I need to check out Blue Moon for a bunch of guns!
