IHMN – The Cult of Angluvia.

Posted on November 13, 2024

Deep in the Jungles of Mindanao, there are rumors the rise of the Cult of Angluvia. It is rumored that this cult has existed since times long past and possesses knowledge that is considered unnatural. Reports have come in that the day of Angluvia is arriving and that the cult priests will be able to bring the Demon Angluvia into the mortal world. This must be stopped, for the benefit of all mankind!

Ordered have gone out to the local garrison on US Marines lead by Gunny Highway to seek out the old temple and wipe out the cult, before rebellion is flamed. At the same time, the famous Professor Huffington, renown cult expert and adventurer, and his band of explores have gotten wind of the cult. Lord Huffington has sworn that he will stop at nothing to end the scourge of the Angluvia, once and for all. Neither group is aware that the other is on the trial. Both close in on the temple late at night to find the temple priest deep in a trance speaking in an unknown language……. Are they too late or will they be able to put the cult down in time?

I had a couple of buddies over for my monthly gaming Sunday. The attendance was light, so I opted to pull out the Pulp terrain and set up a game using In Her Majesty’s Name rules. I went with my GW temple and extra bits to set up the board. This game me a chance to use my newly painted flame pits too!

One side took a Squad of US marines, lead by Gunny Highway. This force included a corporal and three soldiers. The other team was lead by Professor Huffington, his daughter and a few sorority friends.

The scenario would entail getting the most points (usual for these rules). Players could get points by doing the following. 1. taking out the Priest before he finished his incantation (turn eight). 2. Removing other heroes from the cult or other side. 3. finding treasured artifacts.

I placed six markers for the artifacts down around the temple. On a 1-3, they would be a gas attack (pass a pluck test). On a 4-6, the player would get a treasure token. On a 7-9, the player would get two treasure tokens and on a ten them would get two tokens and roll again on the table.

I placed the priest in the middle, with six native guards around him. These figures would not move or take action, until a shot was fire or a melee started. Unknown to the two players, once the alarm was sounded (based on the shot or melee), I would roll every turn. If the roll was under the turn number, natives would appear from one of the two hatches located on the table leading to the underground portion of the temple. This force would be ten fighters and two low level priests.

Both sides set up their forces and we got started. The marines set up a firing squad to shoot down the priest. Much to their chagrin, the prince seemed to be protected by a magic shield and the shots would not hit their mark. It would have to be the bayonet then!

Lord Huffington closed in and started engaging the cultist with short range pistol fire and close combat, clearing the way to the priest. The marines closed in on the other side. Not knowing who was who, both sides started to engage one another with fire. Then, all hell broke loose….

From the underground passages ten warriors came charging out at both forces. It had turned into a fight to stay alive! The marines, however, had a mission and would not be denied. Amongst the swarms of cultists, a bayonet charge closed with the high priest. The priests magic protections finally broke down and he was struck down where he stood!

Now it was just a case of eliminating the cultists. This was not an easy task, as they swarmed both sides. However, the discipline of the adventurers was enough and they were able to take out the cultists and their priests one by one. Neither side came out of the fight unscathed, but the world had been saved and the Marines came out on top, showing everyone that no one messes with Gunny Highway and his boys!
