Star Wars Legion Specialists

Posted on June 16, 2022

I ordered these as pre-release from my FLGS last spring. Unfortunately, they were short shipped when the models released and I had to wait a long time for them to show up. They finally arrived last winter with other models I ordered as part of the Kasheek wave. I put them together right away and set them aside to work on some other projects ( I was a little burned out on by Arc trooper project). Well, not that I am starting to play the game, I am energized and have gotten back to painting up kits for Legion.

The kit comes in hard plastic on sprues, like all the more recent Asmodee kits. You get the usual cards and token of course. You do not really have any options and are locked to glue the kits together as is, due to the unique modeling of each. I suppose you could switch some of the arms around and of course turn the heads to give a little variation, if you want multiple sets. I only bought one, so this was not an issue for me.

The paint job is quite straight forward (well, if you do not keep making mistakes like I did). I started with a light grey spray on the bottom surfaces. I then sprayed white primer on the upper surfaces. The next step is to hit the models with GW What contrast shade. I then hit the kit with a white drybursh to help identify the high areas later. Next, I painted all the black areas with GW contrast black (under uniform, weapons, visors, etc). The longest step was to go back with white and hit all the upper armor plates. I tried to leave the shading on the lower surfaces to give some depth. Once all the white was done, I hit all the black areas with a grey highlight. I then went back and and painted yellow orange in various schemes on the different models, so these would fit with my exiting 212th Legion troops. I opted to follow the paint scheme for Commander Cody for the command figure. I finished up with a contrast blue for the holo projector and red for the medic symbols.

At this point, I hit the bases with dark brown and covered it with GW technical earth to get the crackle effect. Next was a dry brush of tan to bring out the turf. I finished by adding a spikey tuft to each base and a krypton sealer.

With that, I have some specialists, another squad leader for one of my incomplete trooper squads and a new Commander mini for my clone force.
