It was time to break out my old Wings of War miniatures. Out group had been talking about the game for quite some time, but we never got around to it. However, as I did not have time to set up a more complicated game this week, I decided the time was right!
We actually played three games in the course of two and a half hours! Each was a simple scenario with two or three players on a side. The game is just so easy, it is perfect for a quick time filler. The system is great, as there is enough random effects with the damage dice to ensure everyone is both satisfied and frustrated at the same time!
The first game was a simple bombing mission with an escort. The Germans would win if they bombed the target and got off the table. The allies would win if they shot down the German bomber before it bombed its target. If the target was bombed, but the bomber was shot down, it would be a draw. The game went on with the Germans managing to pull of a win!
In the next game, we had the Germans trying to get home in a simple fighter sweep. The side that had the last plane on the board would win. The Germans pulled it out again!
The last game was an excuse to bring out the Gotha bomber! One of my buddies said he would play if he could use it. I called him on it and we were off. His mission was to exit the far end of the table with the bomber. The game was close, but just inches away from winning, the fatal shot was fired and the bomber went down!
