I thought I was mostly done with my Mexican Army for Mexican American War, but things change. After pimping up my last line cavalry unit, I thought I might need more line cavalry. There are a number of units that fought in the early battles, and truth be told, I did not have enough to cover them. I figured I could get by converting a unit of French lights for the sixth regiment, so I ordered those, along with twelve extra horses.

I got the figures and went to work on the sixth. This was just a case of changing the facings colors to white, a few touch ups and painting the rims and cockades on the shakos. So, that one was straight forward.

The first regiment needed a different approach, as they were helmeted. I got some models and painted those up and just attached them to some Gajo painted horses. I only did that, so they would match the other cavalry, as I am not good at painting the same style.

I based them as the rest of the army on one and a half inch square Shogun Miniatured magnetic bases and used four flanged trays from the same company, sprayed in a satin tan to match the base edges. The bases themselves were done in the same rocky sand effect using Muddy Paw. This was finished up with a few spots of turf. I now have almost all the cavalry I need (the Presidials are still in the wings….)!
