Legion – Space Port Attack.

Posted on May 14, 2023

A buddy of mine was visiting from California and wanted to get a game in with the old gang. I reached out to some of the old gang and got a few takers. Based on the attendees, I decided it would be good to pull out my Star Wars Legion stuff and set up a game.

Two of the guys had played once or twice before and had miniatures that they needed to paint, so nothing like a sly motivation! As it is an easy game to play and I wanted to use some of my space port terrain, it was a no brainer!

I just got a new space port mat from Cigar Box battles. I really like the lighting effects on it. They look like they are glowing, even though they are just painted fleece. The space ships are some old Hasbro toys I found on eBay. The scatter terrain is from various companies and painted by me.

My one buddy brought his couple of units of B1 droids, so we had to use them and just fill out the rest of the forces with my minis. We went with one T series droid and Grievous as commanders, three units of B1s, three units of B2s and some spider droids. The allowed me to split the force equally amongst the players.

For the Republic, I went with Commander Rex and a generic Clone Commander. The forces included four units of Phase I clones and two units of ARC troopers. We had a few points, so we added R6 (R2D2) to the mix. Once agin, we decided the force equally amongst the players.

The scenario was the basic battle lines with each side setting up on the long edges of the table. The conditions were clear and the objective was getting into the opponents set up area by the end of the game.

I thought out my painted space port terrain to try to break up the table. I placed the shield generator in the middle to break up the long sighting distances and then through down some space ships and placed scatter terrain around.

The CIS sent their primary attack on the left with their B2s and Grievous. The remainder moved forward cautiously to pin down the clone left flank. Being outnumbered, the clones held back to absorb the attack and try to counter attack late in the game, once the droids had been attritted.

The game pretty much followed the plans as laid out. The CIS attack moved forward, using terrain and engaged the clones in close range firefights. Grievous moved forward slowly to position for a later run.

The clones managed to severely weaken the B1s, so committed the reserves to blunt the B2 attack. Casualties started to pile up and it was getting late in the game, so the clones had to make their move, so started their attack. There we not many clones left on the right, so the attack was lead by R6. On the right, Rex led the remaining clones forward.

Seeing R6 heading for the deployment area, Grievous backed off the attack to take him out of the game. This took him out of scoring range however. The majority of the B2s were finally finished off, by the clones were spent and out of range of the table edge. Rex however sprung forward with the ARC troopers to get forward to grab the victory!
