After playing a few games of Lion Rampant, I started to think about my old 15mm Ancients miniature collection. I used to play ancients many years ago, using various rules. I have to admit, with the exception of a bit of fun with DBA, it really never excited me as much as other historical periods for gaming. I sold most of my minis over the years, but still had my first army and a few DBA/M armies stuffed in some storage boxes.

Enjoying the games we have played lately, I decided to pull out some of my old troops (and some not so old) and rebase or base them. Part of the troops I have are some Romans and Goths that I never actually finished basing. I had some spare bases from my work on Warmaster Nippon, so I hijacked them to try to do some Roman infantry. These would be my test, before getting to the other troops. The figures are Gajo figures I never finished up that I bought a long time ago.

I decided to go with four figures per 40mm x 20mm base, as this seemed to be the most column. It would also allow me to run them using Warmaster, if I wanted to. I then just added some of my Muddy Paw dark mix. This is the tan and gray, with some dark sand added for color. I let that dry and added some Scenic Express summer flock and painted the edges of the bases brown.

I am going with six bases for regular units (12 strength) and three bases for small units (6 strength). I am happy with the look, so will be ordering more bases to finish up all my other troops (and restock for the rest of my Nippon army). I think I am going to get some movement trays too, just to make it easier on the tabletop!
