I had made a supplemental order to Gajo, to get a few units that I thought I could use for my force with a little bit of work. I also had a few extra figures here and there and came across some old figures in my bits box. I needed a break from working on scores of infantry, so I though this would be fun.
The main reason to place the order, was to get two more units of Mexican Artillery, for garrison troops and forts. I ordered two heavy guns for this purpose. I went with the wood colored carriages for these to make them stand out more. I did also paint out the shako bands on these.
While looking for something else, I came across some French Hussars elites. Looking at these, I thought they looked very much like the Hussars of the Supreme Power. So I got enough for a unit or two squadrons. I needed to paint the dolman red and change to cuffs to blue with white lace. Then I went and added white piping to the bags and facings, where visible. I also had to add a front plate.
I also decided I would not mind having some horse holders for my dismounted dragoons. Looking at the Union horses, I figured those would work and got enough for my two units. I had a number of US infantry with broken guns, so I pulled those out and wedged them into the base as the holders and that seemed to work (you cannot tell they are holding a musket in this position). I painted their coats dark blue. I also had a couple of officers, so just did these the same. With that, I have some markers for these guys.
Finally, I came across two old mounted figures I have had for years in my collection. I think they came with some TYW guys I got a long long time ago. Well, their time had come, I had to fix some chips, but that was about use. I put them on smaller bases than my other leaders. These can represent detachment or militia commanders, as I need them.
All the units are based on Shogun bases and based with Muddy Paw and some Scenic Express flock. I think I can finally see the end of this project in sight, just a handful of units to go!
