Next on the hit parade is the cavalry and commanders for the US Army force for the Mexican American War. These are a mix of Civil War and Mexican American war line figures and are all straight from Gajo.

There was not much cavalry used by the US during the war, so this is a bit of an easy fill. I started with the dragoons and ordered enough to field multiple units. Most of the time, these guys were just deployed as squadrons. As such, I decided to go with multiple command and just use squadron pennants on two of them and the regimental standard. The flags are all from Virtual Armchair General, which are the most complete I have found for the conflict.

I also wanted a regiment or multiple squadrons of more irregular clothed cavalrymen. This was to cover Texas Rangers or Kentucky volunteers. I had to go to the Civil War confederate range to fill out this unit. I asked for photos of all the options and chose the figures that would work (no kepis for example!).

The commanders are straight from the MAW range. I just ordered all the unique poses.

All were mounted on magnetic Shogun Miniatures bases and based using my Muddy Paw terrain mix and flocked with Scenic Express flocking. Next, is the infantry.

As I understand it the cavalry wore yellow braid, the dragoons orange.
