With my basic Mexican troops based, I moved on to the US forces. The nature of US uniforms made it easier to put together the basic forces for the US. I ordered enough guys to cover the regulars and volunteers for the early campaign. This required dipping into the Gajo Civil War range for a few things…

I started my basing with the US artillery and some supply wagons. The artillery is from the MAW range, with the limbers and wagons from the Civil War range. I needed to do a little work on a couple of bases of artillery to repaint their coats to dark blue and add red facings, to better reflect Ringold’s battery. These guys are usually represented in Shakos, but I had references to the soft cap, so figures just a quick repainting would be enough. The other crew just came straight from the package. With this, I have enough guns for the fights I am looking at. The limbers were from the Union range, as the type and color or the same for the earlier Mexican American War.

The wagons are actually from the civil war range. I just ordered them without the crew. I went with the confederate versions for the wagons. I figured these could be played on either side, as needed.

The basing is the same as the Mexicans, using Muddy Paw terrain and some thicker sand mixed in. This is finished off with a little flock mix from Scenic Effects. Cavalry is next on the menu!
