We continued on our eastward trek across the state and stopped off in Fort Plain. This was not on our original bingo card, but it came up in my on the road search and the guide at Oriskany cold not say enough good things, so we stopped off. We had low expectations, but it was a good place to stop and stretch our legs.

We got to the site and saw a small house and a fake blockhouse (turns out it was from a float!). We went in and chatted with the lady that was running the place and paid our entry. We walked through the museum on premises. It was not large, but it was chock filled with artifacts of the F&I period! Maybe one of the best “museum” collections we saw on the trip! Next we hit the bookstore. My goodness, what a collection! We both spent a pretty sum and loaded up the car! We then drove up the hill to the location of the old fort (long gone) and checked out the placards and markers.

While the fort site is nothing to write home about, but museum and bookstore are (they sell online also). A great little jewel on the trip and worth the stop! We finished up and headed to our next location at Lake George to get ready for the next stop on our trip.
