We finished up our tours of sites around the greater Buffalo area and started to work our way across the state. We hit a few historical homes in Rochester for a day and got some sleep. The next military site on our list was Fort Stanwix in Rome New York. We got there in the morning, but with a bit of rainy weather in tow.

We started in the museum area (hoping to avoid a school field trip that just entered the fort) and checked it out. A nice little museum that covers the history of the fort. Once we finished up with that, we worked our way into the museum (fortunately, TJ had some umbrellas in his car!).

Unlike most of the other locations, Fort Stanwix is completely made of timber. Clearly, this was not the original wood, but a rebuild, based on some original sources. We walked the walls and went through all the structures. Like all the other fort sites, there was a combination of museum items, vignettes and living history. All is well done. We then walked across the street for some lunch and then did a ring walk around the fort to the museum bookstore for a few purchases! Overall, another banger site!

The next stop was the Oriskany battlefield site down the road. There is not too much here. A field, some placards and a huge monument! There is also a small museum. The guide there was a young guy that was studying history and he gave us a great discussion on the battlefield and some other points of interest. With that, we were back in the car and headed to our nest stop!
