I saw a box of Gale Force Nine Energy Walls on the shelf at my FLGS. These are designed for use with Battetech scaled figures, but I thought they would work well as a nice add to my Legion terrain, to switch things up. I guess I could also use them for a game of Epic Space marines too…. I thought it would be nice to add breaking terrain to the table.

I got the box home opened it up. Everything was well packed in bubble wrap, with each piece being individually wrapped. All the wall section are made of the normal Battlefront hard resin and dryburhed up a few shades from black. The shield sections are done in blue plastic. Each wall section has a hook to connect it to another section, locking in the whole thing into a single piece, making it more stable on the table. There are a lot of wall and plastic sections, so one can easily cover a large portion of a game table with a wall.

I was a bit disappointed in the paint job, as the dry brushes were rather light, resulting in the walls being dark gray with stark light gray highlights. The brown sections were mono toned. I was not totally surprised, as GF9 terrain often has this not quite finished look to me.

I naturally decided I would work these up with some paint. It took me a little while to figure out if I wanted to go gray or tan (which would impact what table I would use them). I finally decided on light gray, so just had to work up the existing scheme up. I just used two lighter shades of gray and worked those up. Next was the brown bands. These looked odd to me, so I decided to go with black, as white and black always work for Star Wars! I just hit them with contrast black, so I did not have to highlight.

I finished up with a satin coat and have the walls ready to go. With that said, I just found that I missed one piece last night (so it is not in the photos), but painted it up quickly, so disaster averted! In the end, a nice set that gives a lot of coverage. Even if you have to pimp it up a bit…
