After a bit of a wait, a few new releases for CIS Legion forces finally came out. While I am on hold playing the game (until the new rules and cards come out this fall), I am still collecting and painting the new figures (at least a bit). Well, the new Aqua Droids came out, so I picked up a couple of boxes.

The new set are hard plastic, like all the new kits. You are supposed to scan the code and get the instructions online. However, I find that annoying (is it really worth saving a couple of cents not to print them?). The figures are all on the sprues and organized by model, so assembly is easy to figure out. Each model has a handful of parts, with very limed mould lines. I snipped all the parts, grouping them by model code (A-G). Trimmed off all the sprue tabs from cutting and assembled each model.

I looked online and saw silver and various gray designs. I decided to go with a gray on gray scheme (most Clone Wars looking). So, I primed the models with light gray spray. Later on, I hit all the models with a black wash. A few days later, I wet brushed the models with light gray and painted all the dark areas with contrast black paint. I hit the back areas with a dark gray drybursh and painted some lenses red. I then went and hit all the trim areas with white.

Next I worked on the bases. I started with a spray of dark brown and glued the figures to the bases. I hit the arc lines with light brown and then covered the rest of the bases with crackle earth from GW. Once that dried, I drybrushed the bases with tan. I finished up with some spiky tufts from Gamers Grass. I finished up with a satin sealer (Krylon Matt) and went back and painted all the red lenses with gloss coat. That wrapped these up and they are ready for the table. I also recently found an Aqua Ship marked down heavily and decided to pick it up as terrain. It just seemed appropriate to photo it with the droids!

Great job, I have a set I need to paint up as well!
