The next batch was another set that I had done some work on one plane, but now had two and needed to match them up. These were both pretty clean on the base paint work, so I could skip that and keep this simpler than most of the Axis and Allies planes I had worked on so far.

This was pretty easy. I started by brightening up all the red and white areas. The original red was not very straight. I thought about fixing this and making it cleaner, but I decided to stick with the rough look and just went with a brighter red. I then hit all the guns, tires and intakes with back. Next I worked on the canopy with some contrast blue on the glass and matching green on the cage work.

I had to pin wash the control surfaces. This ran a bit into the other panel lines, but I figured it gave a weather effect, so left it. I pulled out some decals and redid the side star, added plane numbers to the tail. Once the decals had set, I sprayed the models with Krylon Matt Finish. I went back the next evening and painted in the gloss coat on the canopy glass to finish up the planes.

With that, I thought I was done with my Soviet planes. However, I remembered I needed some white planes to use with my winter troops! Now I just have to decide what planes those will be!
