Crescent Root – City Block Sidewalks

Posted on January 24, 2024

Crescent Root has been releasing multiple entirely new series of buildings in 15mm. These include a series for normal European cities, desert buildings and modern city buildings. The new series is made of plastic and covered with printed stock to give the detail. I have not picked up any of the buildings, as they do not really match my earlier Crescent Root buildings. However, the new line now has side walk sections to go with their buildings. Sidewalks are an easy add to a town to make it look so much better. I have not really come up with a great solution for my current 15mm buildings. As this is something that is more universal, so I thought I would order some to see if I could use them with my current buildings.

The set arrived about a week after ordering. I looked them over and like how they present. The plastic is thick enough to maintain its stiffness and is covered with the printed design. While it is two dimensional, the artwork gives good depth.

My only nit pick, as the sides were in the same black plastic. I decided that this would be an easy fix, so I grabbed some stone colored paint (I think it was green gray) and wet brushed the edges with a brush. I did not want this to be too stark, so wet brushing (dry brushing with more paint on the brush) was perfect to give an uneven effect.

I liked the look and now need to test fit these with all my buildings and see what I need to order to fill out my collection. I may have finally solved my 15mm sidewalk problem! If you like them, check them out over at Crescent Root Studios.

I always liked the look of Crescent Root but they were quite pricey – then double it for shipping to New Zealand (which isn’t their fault but it’s still a consideration). Last time I looked (which is admittedly several years ago) the website indicated they had closed down or were offline for some similar reason?

I find their pricing to be competitive usually. A lot of unpainted terrain costs about the same in scale. With that said, with the explosion of 3D printing, that may be changing. He is a one man shop, so he takes orders and then locks his ordering until he catches up and re-opens. I guess it is his way of ensuring timely fulfillment. I can understand the shipping issue, I have the same when I order stuff from Australia!.
