Alternative Armies Sengoku Buildings.

Posted on March 2, 2023

I have various 15mm armies for use in the pacific war, but am short of terrain for the tabletop. Most of the buildings I found were mdf, which I don’t think fits for this style of building. My searching brought me to some buildings from Alternative Armies. The pictures looked nice, but I could not get much detail about the actual miniatures. Since they looked like they fit my needs and I found them on sale at Nobel Knight, so I ordered the entire set (I’m known for my moderation…).

The figures arrived and I look them over. I thought they would be multi part kits, considering the size. I was not anticipating that they would all be solid pieces of resin (that is what you get for assuming). So, I did not have to glue anything together or clean up any flash. The models are very crisply detailed.

They also offer sets of wooden blinds to cover building windows. I grabbed those too, as I wanted to order a couple of duplicate buildings to get my numbers up. I glued these on some of the buildings to give some variation to the duplicate buildings.

I sprayed the buildings with some Krylon tan painted. A wash of Woodland Scenics Burn Umber was next. Next I used GW black contrast on all the windows and door open areas. I then did two layers of tan drybrush. Next was all the rocks on the roofs (it was a lot of rocks). Hit them with GW gray contrast paint and then two layers of gray paint.

Next was all of the doors. Some of these were wood and others cloth. I went back to the contrast paint collected and puled out random colors and hit each door with its own color. This gives a little color and is a quick solution. A coat of Krylon dull (satin) coat to seal everything in and tone down the dry brushing and the buildings were done.

It’s a nice little set and fills a niche. Getting them on sale was a bonus. Now, I just need to finish my trees!
