Pulp – Rescue Mission to the Penelope Homestead

Posted on April 29, 2022

Extra, extra… A runner coming deep up the Congo has reported that the homestead owned by the Penelope family has been attacked by local tribesmen. Volunteers are being rounded up to go up river and clear the homestead and find any survivors. Grab your rifle and join up, as there is probably a great reward (or ransom) to be had!

Time for another 7TV Pulp game. This week I had four players, so I decided to set up the game for two sides of two players each. There would also be some non-player apes and tribesman (in case someone wanted to join later). I ended up running these, so still got to roll dice!

The scenario was set up for a single hostage in the center building (Lady Penelope). The side that had her at the end would get two points and and extra if they got her off their own board edge. There were also four other tokens that would give one point each. No other points would be awarded.

The table was set up with a church and walled homestead. It was situated in a valley and surrounded by jungle terrain. The gorillas were located in two of the four corners. Each side would set up on the long end of the table facing one another. The board size was 6 x 4.

I went with two groups. One was the good guys, supported by the Boer Kommando and the other was the good guys supported by US Marines. The bad guys one the initiative and moved first.

Both sides closed on the homestead and church, firing at each other on the flanks. As the forces closed, the regulars started chucking grenades at each other at close range. This got the attention of the apes that started skittering about. The good guys got to the building holding lady Penelope first. They had to overcome some natives holding her.

Once lady Penelope was in hand, the game changed to a race. The bad guys collected most of the side objectives and chased after the good guys. The remaining natives joined the chase.

Deep into the final act, a game ending card was pulled that ended the game after one last move by the bad guys. They were luring to get the good guys axed, requiring a morale check for all the marbles. The good guys failed the check, but then rolled a one and were able to keep the soldier holding lady Penelope and win the game by the hair of their chin chin chin.

Great stuff…I have been building up a Pulp collection for about a year now but yet to get any of them on a table! What rules do you use for these games….do 7TV produce a set and how are they?
